As a retired teacher, Jim Blockey has seen firsthand how far our schools have drifted from their true purpose. America now ranks among the lower tier of developed nations in educational performance despite spending more per student than nearly every other country. The problem is not funding—it is misplaced priorities. For years, LAWA Democrats have pushed ideology into the classroom while removing parents from the decision-making process. Children are falling behind in reading, writing, math, and science because academic excellence has taken a backseat to political agendas.
The Crisis in Our Classrooms
The reality in many public schools today is stark. Academic basics are being overshadowed by political narratives and controversial ideologies. Students are struggling to master the core subjects that form the foundation for lifelong success. Meanwhile, teachers are forced to navigate policies that prioritize agenda-driven instruction over genuine learning. This approach not only hinders students’ academic growth but also places unnecessary stress on educators who are there to teach, not to serve as political instruments.
Protecting Faith & Family Values
Public schools have no moral right to educate children against Christian beliefs—and there is a strong argument they have no legal right to do so either. When the Supreme Court removed state-sponsored prayer from schools in Abington School District v. Schempp (1963), Justice Tom Clark wrote for the majority: “The government is to be neutral… in matters of religious theory, doctrine, and practice.” Neutrality means staying out of religious matters, not attacking faith or replacing it with ideological instruction. Schools should respect the beliefs of families, not impose teachings that contradict them.
Parents as Primary Decision-Makers
Jim believes parents must have the final say in their children’s education. Bureaucrats and activists should not dictate curriculum or classroom priorities. Transparency is essential: no hidden lessons, no secret policies. Families deserve to know exactly what their children are being taught. By returning schools to their core mission of teaching reading, writing, and math, we can strengthen students’ academic foundations while freeing teachers from unnecessary distractions.
Restoring Academic Focus
Education should focus on academic excellence, not political agendas. Removing ideological lessons would allow schools to prioritize what matters most: literacy, numeracy, science, and critical thinking. It would also reduce wasteful spending, lighten the burden on educators, and give students the time and resources they need to thrive. Schools should adhere to true neutrality—respecting faith and traditional values instead of undermining them.
Putting Children First
America’s children must come before foreign aid, activist agendas, or bureaucratic overreach. Jim Blockey envisions a system where local control, parental rights, and academic rigor guide education policy. Students and families should be empowered to make choices that align with their values, not dictated by distant political authorities. As your Congressman, Jim will fight for a Parents’ Bill of Rights, local control, and education focused on academic achievement rather than ideological instruction.
